A brighter future is in your hands. We’re currently seeking an Organic Gardener to join our team on an organically maintained technical client’s campus. We are looking for somebody who enjoys all aspects of organic horticulture, hands-on gardening and working with a team to expand your knowledge with us. Ideal candidate will have experience in CA native gardening and sustainable gardening practices. Effective communication with clients and team members is required.

What you'll do:

  • Garden maintenance of multiple native and edible landscapes to perform the following duties:

  • Use of all electric maintenance equipment

  • Hand pruning, harvesting and hand weeding

  • Light repair of irrigation systems

  • Blowing of hardscaping

  • Monitoring wildlife

  • Interacting with the public in the gardens

Skills we're seeking:

  • Experience and knowledge of plants

  • Candidate must be well organized

  • Some plant pathology and entomology knowledge

  • Ability to talk about plants to general public

  • Using hand tools, such as pruning shears

  • Work at heights, as above 8 ft ladder

  • Load and operate a blower 10 pounds for long periods of time

  • Using a hand rake for long periods of time

  • Operation of a motor vehicle

  • Operating machinery on public roads

Additionally, it is expected that all employees comply with all internal control and compliance practices:

  • Protect company property from theft or misuse

  • Ensure separation of duties to reduce fraud

  • Meet the work ethic, regulations and laws

  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary company information

Desired Characteristics:

  • Associates degree or higher in Horticulture related field

  • Work experience with organic gardening methods

  • California native plant knowledge

  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus

Work Environment / Physical Requirements:

  • Work eight hours or more per day, with breaks necessary, for 5 days a week (you may require working overtime on the weekends)

  • Ability to work under extreme conditions - temperatures can get to 100 F

  • Ability to work under direct sunlight for long periods of time

  • Ability to carry 40 pounds (bags of fertilizer, mulch, etc.)

  • Ability to load / unload a trailer full of burlaps up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to bend, stoop and twist throughout the day
